Project Title: 2006 EPA
M2M Grant: Productive Use of Methane in the Indian Dairy Industry - An Indian
AgStar Mechanism
Project Description:
This project would develop an AgSTAR program for the Indian condition, modeled
after EPA's domestic AgSTAR program.
Objectives: The program will target
the dairy industry across India and work with cooperative and private sector dairies
to create a producers' coalition. It will develop a nationwide institutional system
that promotes capture of methane from livestock wastes at Indian dairy farms through
anaerobic digestion technology combined with solids separation. The captured methane
will be used to generate electricity.
Status: Ongoing
Project Title: 2006 EPA M2M
Grant: Regional workshop on technologies and policies for control of methane emission
from animal wastes
Project Description:
An interactive workshop will be held between stakeholders of various Asian and
developed countries that would address the various issues associated with the
implementation of projects for methane capture.
Objectives: This workshop
will identify areas of intervention for methane recovery and facilitate collaboration
and cooperation between bilateral, multilateral, and private sector companies
involved in manufacturing of systems, and local and international financial and
research institutions. Goal of the workshop is to promote large scale methane
recovery for improvement of local and global environment.
Project
Description: This is a proposed methane recovery project located on dairy
operations in India.
Objectives: Urja Biosystem has installed three dairy
buffalo waste to energy generation projects in Maharashtra and would like to replicate
more such projects. The proposed methane recovery system is a floating dome anaerobic
digester where the biogas will be used for electricity and cooking fuel.

Distillery and Winery Waste in India
Project
Description: The grant was awarded to expand efforts to launch AGStar India
and expand focus to include methane capture from distillery and winery in India.
Objectives:
This project is to support the assessment of distillery and winery waste in India
and potential methane capture.
